St. Joseph Medical Center is a 366 bed tertiary-care medical center that offers leading-edge care and the latest medical technology provided by expert, compassionate staff. The Pharmacy department is very well respected within the healthcare organization and provides a combination of extensive decentralized clinical services, including ED, NICU, Critical Care, Inpatient Oncology and Outpatient Oncology, Medical-Surgical, amongst others, and centralized distribution services both for St. Joseph Medical Center and 6 other CHIFH hospitals.  There is a regional pharmacy leadership team that supports the managers at all our acute care and ambulatory sites.   
 
The department has an ASHP-accredited PGY1 Residency program with 6 Pharmacy PGY1 Residents trained annually.  In addition there are numerous students trained at St. Joseph Medical Center on an annual basis.
 
 
Job Summary:

 
This position is responsible for the operational oversight and coordination of the inpatient pharmacy at St Joseph Medical Center. The scope of work consists of daily operations management, participating/leading continuous process improvement and quality initiatives, maintaining and updating organizational policies and standards in accordance with best practices and regulatory requirements, medication safety management, budgetary oversight, and more. This position has responsibility for a full complement of staff including an operations supervisor, clinical pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and pharmacy assistants.
 
This position is expected to partner as an integral part of the pharmacy leadership team on a regional level with opportunity to participate on projects and meetings at the CHI national level. Additionally, positive partnerships with other service line leaders including but not limited to physicians, nursing, facilities, and environmental services will be necessary for success.
 
Work requires knowledge of the concepts, professional standards and methodologies applicable to providing pharmaceutical care, and of applicable regulatory requirements to ensure quality and compliance with all state and federal rules and regulations and to exercise sound judgment and critical thinking in resolving complex issues. The manager is expected to apply solid principles of leadership, human relations and continuous quality improvement in the overall management, coordination, and refinement of inpatient pharmacy operations.

Education/Work Experience Requirements:
Minimum requirements:
 
Bachelors of Science degree from an accredited school of pharmacy, including didactic courses and experiential rotations in pharmaceutical care, and four years of supervisory or management work experience in a health system pharmacy. If experience is not in a health system pharmacy, the experience requirement is ten years. One year of work experience in a hospital pharmacy within the past two years is preferred.
 
Preferred requirements:
 
Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited school of pharmacy
Graduate from an ASHP-accredited PGY1 pharmacy residency program
Graduate from a PGY2 administrative pharmacy residency program
MBA/MHA or master’s equivalent
